Lori Sexton Olivier was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1956. The oldest of six children, Lori spent most of her childhood in Mitchellville, Iowa. She has lived in Indianapolis for 22 years. In 1978, after graduating from Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa, with a BA in Nursing, Lori moved to Rochester, Minnesota. While working as the Head Nurse of the renal transplant unit at Rochester Methodist Hospital, a Mayo Clinic affiliate, she met her future husband, Dr. Henry Olivier, Jr. Dr. Olivier completed his Cardiac Surgery training in Pittsburgh, PA where their daughter Kate was born. Kate, a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, is currently pursuing dual degrees in law and public health at Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis. She is engaged to fellow DePauw graduate Mike Runge, formerly of Seymour, IN. The Olivier family moved to Indianapolis in 1985 and expanded in 1986, with the birth of a son, Henry Olivier III. Henry followed in his Grandfather Olivier’s footsteps and enlisted in the United States Army. After completing his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Henry is now stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. His MOS is Cavalry Scout. While Dr. Olivier (a Naval Reserves Captain) practiced in the Community Hospital system until his death in 1997, Lori spent her time raising their children. She remained active with community groups. Currently she is employed by Indiana University and works at Indygo, as a disability evaluator for the City of Indianapolis’ Open Door program. Lori strongly believes that education is crucial to self-advancement and is necessary to improve one’s life. With education comes power. A small-town girl at heart, Lori believes in supporting local businesses and the local economy. She is also a strong advocate for improving Indiana’s environmental quality—with emphasis on research into alternative sources of energy and mass transportation
